| NEW BLOG |
[Jan. 12th, 2008|05:56 pm] |
Hello devoted LJ readers,
I think my time with livejournal has come to an end. Well, it came to an end about a year ago, and it's just been suffering a slow descent into unimportance. So, come and read my new blog!
alex loves you and your silly pop songs
Already that kind sailor at Skatterbrain has linked my blog, so I'm feeling all important now in the grand world of blogs, haha. One link down, how many to go?
BYE LJ! |

| jam donuts |
[Jul. 21st, 2007|05:52 pm] |
I ate a jam donut at 2pm. It's now almost 6pm and I can still taste its sugary goodness stuck to the strawberry goodness of my lipgloss. Moral to this story? Jam donuts are very, very delicious but don't eat them after applying Juicy Tubes.
Just thought I'd tell y'all that. |

I feel victorious: I finally figured out the keyboard shortcut for navigating between tabs in Firefox. Ha! |

| five things |
[Oct. 29th, 2006|11:39 am] |
1. Still Flyin' - twee reggae collective. Possibly one of the best things you will hear all year. Watch the film clip!
2. CNN's Special Report - Indie Scene. Possibly one of the most amusingly crap things I've read all year. I scored 3 out of 10 on the 'How Indie Are You?' quiz. I feel so uncool.
3. Marky Lucksmith played bass in Darren Hanlon's band last night! Best surprise ever!
4. Dancing upstairs at Rics by myself was liberating, aside from the predatory creeps who seemed intent on limiting my dancing space in order to fulfil their gross drunken urges. Urgh! Having an ex boyfriend as the Saturday night DJ certainly comes in handy, especially when he plays Aislers Set and Gentle Waves songs for me. Yeah!
5. I have to make decisions about jobs. I had my last day in the public sector on Friday, and now I'm undecided about whether I pursue a career in milk or planes. Scary! |

| TOTAL GAYLORD ALEX |
[Oct. 7th, 2006|09:45 am] |
I just saw a Scissor Sisters film clip and it was so unbelievably camp that I have the worst compulsion in the world - to go and buy myself a Scissor Sisters album
Is there something wrong with me? |

| Goodbye little GS |
[Oct. 6th, 2006|04:18 am] |
Oh GS, I'm gonna miss you.

Even though you stalled on me so many times and stank of petrol and had a crackly AM radio and never liked hill starts, you were a fun little car to cruise along the highway in, and you certainly knew how to turn heads.
You'll have fun with your new owner. He probably knows the car better than what I ever did. Hell, he bought you for me!
You'll be replaced be something modern and zippy and fun, but I'll think of your froggy nature lots and lots.
Love Alex, the former Citroen driver.
(P.S. This means I now need to find a new car to buy. Yeeeek!) |

| MEAT AND GREET |
[Sep. 27th, 2006|10:50 pm] |
Brainwave at trivia tonight: I'm going to have a party dedicated solely to the art of barbequing meat. YES.
It's going to be called ALEX'S MEAT AND GREET. By God, why aren't I in comedy already?
More details to come, but should you have any suggestions for what animals need providing for at this party, I want to know.
Sorry for being a heartless carnivore, guys. Maybe the vegetarians out there can have some form of witty tofu party or something. |

| Guestbook |
[Sep. 26th, 2006|09:09 pm] |
You might have heard that Richard Hammond from Top Gear had an accident and is in a critical condition in a Leeds hospital. Heartbreaking. SBS have set up a guestbook to send Richard well wishes from Australia.
And where's my comment buried? Only on, oh, page 299 of 452. Ha. He might read it when he's 70 or so.
Top Gear is now finished for the current (old) (Australian) season. It returns to my Monday nights in January. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO UNTIL THEN? I think I may begin to buy classic car magazines for a fix. Or buy a new car. |

| BARBEQUE |
[Sep. 18th, 2006|09:41 pm] |
|
I bought a barbeque on the weekend. It's four sweet, sweet burners, full of meaty roasting glory. I am so impressed. Best investment I've made in ages. Well, apart from the super cute dress I bought on Friday night. But yes! Summer of barbeques!! I feel like such a great Aussie bloke. All I need now is some XXXX stubbie coolers and a dart board. Who wants to come around for the footy grand final?? We can watch anything but the football! |

[Sep. 11th, 2006|07:28 pm] |
FACT #1: SamB and I scored the highest marks in our class for Securities Law. We rule!
FACT #2: International Money Orders suck beyond belief.
FACT #3: Sambassadeur are my new favourite band. For the time being, at least.
FACT #4: Top Gear is on now. Best show on tv! Must depart. |

| i go and i come between you |
[Sep. 3rd, 2006|06:35 pm] |

I can't stop listening to the English version of "Je T'Aime (Moi Non Plus)", called "I Love You (Me Either)", covered by Karen Elson and Cat Power. It's complete with erotic sighs and all. I'm in love with this version. Gainsbourg's lyrics translated into English = nuts nuts nuts. Then again, this is Gainsbourg we're talking about so I really shouldn't be shocked, ha ha. |

| Sick day |
[Aug. 23rd, 2006|10:44 am] |
Today is the first sick day I've taken off work this year. And it feels weird, because I'm not used to taking sick days. I woke up at 5.10am, did some uni work, then went back to bed at 6.10am, expecting to wake up at again at 7am to get ready for work. Instead, I have just felt incredibly lethargic. I almost feel lazy. Argggggh. I am probably run down or iron deficient or I don't know what. I need about ten million hours of sleep, and to forget that I have a whole stack of uni work to do.
I will attempt to be productive today and do plenty of uni work. So uninspired. However, daytime TV is even more uninspiring, so it's probably better I do something. |

| uni biz |
[Jul. 25th, 2006|07:29 pm] |
I come home to visit mum tonight and eat roast pork and pudding, and there's a big swanky letter from uni waiting for me.
I'm a Dean's Award for Excellence recipient! Wahey!
And what did the uni churn out? A bloody public servant, ha ha. |

| way to look spaz, alex |
[Jul. 19th, 2006|08:12 pm] |
Here's where I prove my utter ineptitude at everything in life.
(Well, two seemingly trivial yet somehow crucially important parts).
1. I am so used to living a semi-bourgeois life that I didn't even know how to properly operate a corkscrew last night. No, instead of having a proper normal corkscrew at home, I'm accustomed to the beautiful engineering of the SCREWPULL, the bourgeois gadget of choice. I clearly know how to impress the boys.
2. I've only ever camped twice in my life - first time was on school camp in year 8 and I forgot my sleeping bag. Second time was in Sweden, and all the setting up camp business was left to Lina and a bunch of crazy Swedes. This weekend will be my third time. Tonight, I didn't even know the difference between the outer and inner layers of a tent. And I was trying to set up said tent in our family room.
It all reminds me of the time when the beautiful gay solicitor from my old job told me I was all class when I mentioned I'd never been further north in Australia than Noosa.
Alex = knows how to suck. |

| omg internet! |
[Jul. 15th, 2006|11:42 am] |
I don't have any proper internet access at the moment, so here are some things happening at the moment!
1. I have a sweet pad! Cat and I are living in Kelvin Grove, and Jess is moving in next weekend. It's all one big gigantic novelty, and travelling to work takes me less time than it took to go from Caboolture to Petrie stations. So good!
2. I love my nannu: my cousin in London's had a baby girl, and she named her India. My nannu (my grandfather), who's in his mid-80s, asks her, "Why did you name her India? You should've called her Malta!" Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
3. Because there's no proper internet access, I've turned into a semi-tv junkie. Spend enough time watching Indian film clips on Briz 31 and I'm sure it's probably equivalent to the amount of acid Syd Barrett took in his lifetime. Fucking nuts isn't enough to describe it.
4. Mum's baking me scones, and offering me all this food. Wahey!
5. I think I might be attending more double features at the Globe - last night we saw 'Faster Pussycat Kill Kill' and 'Vixen', and my word, more Brisbane cinemas should be screening more great 60s soft porn cult classics.
6. One of my former colleagues at work went to court this week, charged with pushing an old lady over in a carpark after she stole the park he was waiting for. ARGHAITHAHTIAHTAHIA. But this means they're promoting me to his job, wahey! Way to be a schmuck, schmuck.
7. I went nuts at JB Hi Fi on Wednesday, and bought a big stack of CDs, all of which are awesome. Most awesome of all is finding Primal Scream's "Sonic Flower Groove" for $18!!!
Your turn now. What's been happening on the net these past few weeks, kids? |

| nanna behaviour |
[Jun. 25th, 2006|09:07 pm] |
I think I'm turning into a nanna...I'm back knitting again.
I'm knitting legwarmers! And I'm gonna start knitting a dress soon!
In non-nanna news, omg_miss_jess, Catherine and I have hopefully found a place to live!! NO MORE CABOOLTURE! I am very, very excited. |
